The Bharat Scouts & Guides, Rangia College Unit:

The Bharat Scouts & Guides of Rangia College Unit is registered under the Assam State Centre of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. It has already been able to establish itself as an active leading unit in the state of Assam. This is worth to mention that the members of this unit, conventionally designated as ‘Rover’ for boys and ‘Ranger’ for girls have learnt every bit of the Laws and Promises by heart to transform themselves as true human being who are ready to shoulder any responsibility for the well being of their country and the mankind. Few noteworthy events, instances and achievements of members of this unit are highlighted here under in chronological order:

 The second Foundation Day of the Unit was celebrated with a day-long programme on the 13th August, 2005. The open meeting, presided over by the erstwhile principal, R.P. Bhattacharjya, was attended by Mr. N.C. Mahanta who is also the State Secretary as the honourable Chief Guest. In his speech, Mr. Mahanta expressed his happiness by saying that six Rovers of Rangia College Unit representing the state in the Ardha Kumbha Mela in Haridwar could earn glory for the college and the state as well by their fully dedicated meritorious service.The Unit participated in the Independence Day Parade in the Rangia H.S. School play ground at the Rangia sub-division level on the 15th August, 2005.

During September 16-25, 2005 the 8th Adventure Leader Course was organized at Pachmari, Madhypradesh. Out of the five state representatives, four was selected from from the Rangia College Unit alone due to the already established reputation of sincerity in service. All the four successfully completed this adventure course too.

In the 16th National Jamboree held in October, 2005 one Rover was selected to act as a Quarter Master and two Rangers were selected to act as Service Ranger at National Level which may be considered as a great honour to the college.

A Rover and Ranger SAMAGAM were instituted from January 17 to 26, 2006 in Darjeeling. The state of Assam was allocated seven members quota and all the seven members were selected from our college only. These members could show alround leadership and also earned a number of prizes in the cultural competition.

On the 26th January, 2006 i.e., on the eve of Republic Day, cadres of Rangia College joined the parade in the Government sponsored celebration on the Rangia H.S. School field. Similarly, on August 15, 2006 also there was active participation in the Independence Day Parade on the same ground.

Five numbers of Rovers from this college joined the Nipun Rover Testing Camp held from September 3 – 7, 2007 in State Training Centre at Sonapur. Similarly, in the 1st Nipun Ranger Testing Camp, six Rangers joined the test camp from Sept. 8 – 12, 2006. All the Rovers and Rangers passed the tests to earn the Nipun grade.A Day –long Trekking and Hiking programme was organized with active participation of 13 Rovers and 5 Rangers in the famous pilgrim town of Hajo

The Foundation Day for the Year 2006 was observed on the 23rd Sept., 2006 in lieu of August 13 due to some practical inconveniences. The open session was presided over by Dr. R.P. Bhattacharjya, Principal of the college. This year the State Commissioner Dr. Haren Das attended as the Guest of Honour and Mr N.C. Mahanta graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Both of them delivered their inspiring lecture to the august gathering. Two Rovers and two Rangers of this college actively participated in the National Leadership Camp held in Godpuri in the state of Haryana between September 25 and 29, 2006.

Bharat Scouts & Guides, Rangia College Unit observed foundation day: The Bharat Scouts &Guides observed foundation day cum Investiture Ceremony of B.S & G under the Guidance and supervision of Ranger and Rover leader on ---2007. Hon’ble Principal A. K. Sarma as chairperson and Sri Manoj Kr Singha, Lecturer in Physics attended the open meeting as appointed speaker. Sri Singha highlighted the importance of the Scout & Guide movement to inculcate moral responsibility among the youths. Teachers and students of the college attended the function.

(iii) Blood Donation Camp: The Bharat Scouts& Guides and the Health Care Unit of the college organized a blood donation camp on September 21st 2007 at the college. The camp was conducted in association with the NCC, NSS, IQAC and Students’ Union of the college. A team comprising eight members under the supervision of Dr. Umesh Datta, Director of the State of Art Model Blood Bank, Guwahati Medical College Hospital visited the camp in order to execute the professional jobs of drawing blood and its proper storage as a voluntary contribution to the reputed blood bank. Honb’le principal including a couple of teachers, a huge number of students and office staff attended the awareness program. A group of thirty-nine (39) students and two (2) teachers donated blood @ 350ml. The college community donated 14.350litre blood to the esteemed blood bank.

Activities of Bharat Scouts and Guides:

The cell has an untiring effort for extending kind and humble contribution            towards various dimensions of the society. As part of their activities the members of the cell have participated in the programmes having value based and need based outlook. Followings are the some programmes participated by the students:

(1)Abhiruchi Day (Sport Day) held at Rangia on 3rd Sept, 2008, (2) Life line Express camp held at Rangia on 4th Dec, 08 to 24th Dec, 08, (3) Nipun Testing camp held at Chamata Pathar, Sonapur, Assam from Nov.5th - 9th 2008 (4) Operation Smile India held at MMC Hospital from Jan. 29th - Feb 6th, 2009, (5) Cub Bulbul Ustav held at Gitanagar on 3rd - 7th Feb, 2009, (6)Cub Bulbul Ustav held at South Point School on 21st - 22nd Feb, 2009, (7)Past Rastrapati Scouts/Guides/Rover/Ranger Forum held at Chamata Pather,Assam from 1st - 5th March, 2009, (8) Eye Donation Camp held at Raij Mel Swahid Bhaban, Rangia, (9)Regional Tribal Camp held at Sonapur, Assam from March 5th -9th, 2009, (10)Shree Hanuman Jayanti Maha Ustav held at Fancy Bazar, T.R. Phookan Road, Guwahati from April 1st - 9th 2009, (11)Operation Smile India held at MMC Hospital from May 21st -29th 2009.

The various activities performed by the Bharat Scouts & Guides of the College during 2010 - 2011 are:

25th August, 2011:  A group of 18 Rover/ Ranger of the Unit participated in the Blood donation camp Organized by Sanakr Azan Development Organization, a NGO at Panchayat Bhaban, Rangia and four members of the unit ( Diganta Kakoti, Rupam Kalita, Dipankar Das and Bhaswati Kalita) donated blood one unit each .

3rd Septmber, 2011:  A group of 30 Rover/Ranger took part in the Abhiruchi Sports Day as a part of all Assam events.

12th -16th  October, 2011:  A group of six (3+3) Rover/Ranger of Rangia College  Unit participated in National Rover/Ranger Moot Camp held at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and was adjudged as the Best group of the event.

29th  October, to 2nd  November, 2011:  A group of  eleventh  (4+7)  Rover/Ranger attended the State Nipun Testing Camp held at State Training Center Chamata Pathar, Sonapur, Assam

7th- 9th November 2011:  A group of  nineteen (15+4) Rover and Ranger of the unit rendered day and night  service to people  who paid  homage to the departed soul of  Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the musical maestro, at Judges Field,  Guwahati and the on the occasion of “Adya Sradhya” to pay homage to the  departed soul on 15th November, 2011.

Bharat Scouts & Guides, Rangia College Unit observed foundation day: The Bharat Scouts &Guides observed foundation day on 13th August 2012 Hon’ble Principal Dr. Jogesh Kakati as chairperson and Dr. Manoj Kr Singha and Ms Mamata Lahkar attended the open meeting as appointed speaker. Dr. Singha highlighted the importance of the Scout & Guide movement to inculcate moral responsibility among the youths. Teachers and students of the college attended the function.Prize and certificates was distributed among the Ranger and Rover leaders for their motivation. Dr.Kakati expressed deep sense of satisfaction with the activities and Performances of the Rangia College unit inside the college and in state level as a whole.
